The materiality
In its mass tone — concentrated under her chin, neck and ear — the synthetic iron oxide settles as dark, scorched mahogany-brown, gripping the tissue ridges with heavy opacity.
Where it washes across her face and the peripheral bursts, it burns with luminous rust-sienna heat. In the upper-right bloom the paint fractures into flame-like tendrils and concentrated pools of oxidised pigment.
Transparent Red Oxide is volatile, fiery and unyielding; it refuses to sit quietly among neighbouring tones. Ember-like darks for enduring defiance; flame-like bursts for a friction-filled presence that ignites national debate.
